Summary of "Season 3 - Such a painful show...": It brings me great pain every time I watch this show. I have these muscles right below my cheekbones that hurt, and I can't tell if it's from laughing, or smiling, but it's this show that does it to me! I have to sit and massage my face after I'm done watching an episode because it really hurts. Yes, this show brings me great pain.
I was trying to decide who my favorite character was, and I've come to the conclusion that it's a tie with everyone in the office (not including the guys in the warehouse - they aren't as cool). Every character fits in perfectly, and they all make me laugh. Some of them are good for the shock value, some are good because of their reactions, and others are good because they're just so damn zany. Everyone has a role in the show, even if it isn't a large one.
This set is another great one from Universal - well deserving of my "pick of the week" for September 4. The commentary tracks are good, the deleted scenes are awesome, and while some of the other material is a hodge-podge of stuff, I'm glad it's on the set. It's going to be hard waiting a year for more episodes; I only watch this show on DVD. (read entire review)
Summary of "Season 2 - Universal's Best DVD set!": I've often been critical of the sets Universal releases, but I don't have any complaints about this one. They really stepped it up with The Office season 2. Awesome audio and video paired with great bonus material makes this one a winner.
I enjoyed season 2 a lot more than season 1. The show has distanced itself from the British series, though every once and awhile you'll see some matching storylines. Dwight, like the British Gareth, is such an awesome character. Rainn Wilson is one of the best "creepy" actors there is, and he fits this role perfectly. I liked him in Six Feet Under, but he's way better in The Office.
This is the best TV-DVD set Universal has released, and it's worthy of being in any DVD collection. (read entire review)
Season 1 - It's okay, but it's not the original (8/10/2005)
Summary of "Season 1 - It's okay, but it's not the original": I've already stated that I was a fan of the UK series, and I looked down upon the US show long before I saw a single episode (this was my first time watching the show). I spent too much time drawing comparisons between the US and UK episodes that I didn't have time to actually enjoy the show. I was contrasting the performances of Ricky Gervais, as David Brent, to Steve Carell, as Michael Scott. I was forgetting that while the two shows use the same name and have similar characters, they are two different shows. Once I got over that (it took 5 episodes) I began to enjoy the US series. I'd take the UK show over the US one in a heartbeat, but I can see myself growing to like the US series after I watch more episodes.
I've often ragged on Universal for their lack of extras, or trying to make it sound as though they have more extras then they really do. The Office looks pretty bare if you just look on the back of the box. "Deleted Scenes" and "Commentary" are the two bullets, but what they don't tell you is that there are 5 commentary tracks and nearly an hour of deleted scenes (when there's 2:15 of content). I really wish the UK version had commentary tracks, so I was quite amused to find them here. This is a set where I won't complain about the lack of extras; I think Universal did a nice job.
If you haven't seen the UK version of The Office then you'll enjoy this more than those of us who have. It's not a bad show, it's just hard to live up to the original. (read entire review)
