Chicago, IL (April 11, 2012) - Before Stieg Larsson emblazoned computer hacker Lisbeth Salander with her dragon tattoo, there lived a homicide detective stationed in the small city of Ystad on the Southern coast of Sweden by the name of Kurt Wallander. This May, the revered lawman will take the U.S. by storm in the stateside debut of the award-winning Swedish TV series with Henning Mankell's Wallander. Startling and wholly engrossing in their originality and power, all 13 feature-length episodes, based on the writings by its creator, were produced in 2009-10 and star the award-winning veteran Swedish beloved actor Krister Henriksson.
Following its triumphant broadcast on Swedish television and across Europe, where it won England's prestigious International TV Dagger at the 2010 Crime Thriller Awards, Henning Mankell's Wallander will available on DVD in a deluxe 7-disc box in the U.S. for the first time by Music Box Films Home Entertainment beginning May 29.
The episodes featured in Henning Mankell's Wallander includes: "The Revenge"; "The Guilt"; "The Courier"; "The Thief"; "The Cellist"; "The Priest"; "The Leak"; "The Sniper"; "The Angel of Death"; "The Ghost" (aka 'The Phantom'); "The Heritage"; "The Collector" (aka 'The Dun'); and "The Witness."
In Henning Mankell's Wallander, viewers finds its brilliant but flawed hero drinking a little too much, struggling with anger control and meeting opposition with his friends, family and co-workers, but always on the job when it comes to tracking down the evildoers who slither through Sweden's dark underbelly.
As the 13-episode series opens, Inspector Wallander is growing increasingly disillusioned with his work, often wondering whether he should have become a police officer at all. Still living with the fallout and memories of some of his past actions, coupled with a failing state of health, Wallander hopes to put himself at ease in a new home by the sea. But any thought of peace and quiet is quickly shattered when he is pulled into a murder investigation...and then another…until he comes to understand that applying his brilliant detective's mind in the pursuit of truth and justice is indeed his destiny.
Described as "the godfather of Swedish crime" by The Washington Post and "Sweden's greatest living mystery writer" by Los Angeles Times, Henning Mankell, has been bringing murderers to justice with his internationally acclaimed stories of Wallander for more than two decades.

Who Is Kurt Wallander?
Kurt Wallander is a homicide detective in the small city of Ystad, on the southern coast of Sweden. An intelligent, dedicated and caring man who brings everything he has to each of the challenging murders he is assigned to solve, Wallander is nonetheless a flawed character who drinks and eats too much, struggles with anger and is frequently at loose ends socially and with his family. He frequently regards the crimes he investigates on a very personal level, throwing himself into catching criminals and going against the orders of his superiors to try to solve a case. Over the years he has grown increasingly disillusioned with his work, and often wonders whether he should have become a police officer at all, though he continues to believe that good can still triumph over the ever-encroaching forces of evil.
