Two weeks ago we
had a report that Media Blasters/Anime Works and World Events Productions were coming out with a high-def release of the ultimate robotic team-up between Lion Force and Vehicle Force, with a Blu-ray Disc version of
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Fleet of Doom. At the time the release date was scheduled to be September 28th...a date which Amazon's pre-order listing (see button link below) continues to show, at least as of this writing.
This morning we received an e-mail from one of our readers, Clinton Strock. Our thanks to Clinton, because he pointed us toward
a write-up yesterday at a site called Mania.com; the folks over there had gotten a new schedule in from Media Blasters. According to their story, MB had made several changes to the roster, delaying some titles on that list and removing others. Of the products no longer on the list, according to Mania.com, one prominent title is the
Fleet of Doom Blu-ray.
We directly checked in, of course, with our studio contacts about this. We've confirmed that a delay could indeed be in the works for this Blu-ray title, but that it should only be a delay, after all: as far as is currently known, the title is not actually canceled. Details about the reasons for the change aren't immediately available, but it was pointed out that Media Blasters still has a release of
Armored Fleet Dairugger - Collection 3 (this is the anime series Vehicle Force
Votron was based upon) to get out later this month, and we assume that it probably takes priority! We'll keep an eye out for updates about the high-def Blu-ray release for
Voltron: Defender of the Universe - Fleet of Doom, and let you know what we find out. Stay tuned!
