About 2 weeks ago, we brought up Marv Wolfman's name when
reporting on
The Transformers - Season 3, Part 2/Season 4: he co-wrote "The Return of Optimus Prime".
Then, a week later, we brought up David Wise's name while
discussing another hot cartoon series of that era: the 1987 version of
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As it turns out, David Wise, co-writer of the
TMNT pilot mini-series, was also the writer behind "The Rebirth", the 3-part storyline which comprised the 4th and final USA season of the original
Transformers.
Both "The Return of Optimus Prime" and "The Rebirth" will be among the episodes featured on the upcoming
The Transformers - Season 3, Part 2/Season 4 box set, which releases on March 9th. These are two of the most beloved-by-fans stories on this release. Well, we've learned that the writers of those episodes, Wolfman and Wise, have recorded interviews for Rhino, and that they could be included on this collection.
Rhino hasn't properly said yet what supplements to expect on this final release of
Transformers regular episodes. Though they have announced the usual "2 limited-edition
Transformers animated cells," they otherwise have simply said it will be "Loaded with special features fans love". However, we have gotten some inside info about this. We are informed that David Wise was interviewed for a couple of hours by Rhino's production team, with the intention of that material appearing on the final release. And we're further told that Marv Wolfman was interviewed previous to that, and that his material hasn't appeared on previous DVD releases of
The Transformers. So it ought to be included on
The Transformers - Season 3, Part 2/Season 4 as well.
Of course, nothing's guaranteed. We're told reliably that the material exists, but that doesn't mean that Rhino will use it. On the other hand,
Transformers season sets have included similar supplements in the past, and it makes all the sense in the world that these two particular interviews would be saved for this release, to tie into those spectacular storylines. If they are included, then remember...you heard it here first!
