When it comes to the voice of Optimus Prime, there's no doubt that Peter Cullen of the orginal Generation 1 and
The Transformers - The Movie is the one "prime" voice that everyone remembers. But Gary Chalk took up his place afterward as Optimus Primal in
Beast Wars and
Beast Machines, and then came back later as Prime in the newer shows
Transformers: Armada and
Transformers: Energon. Now Chalk has returned to lead the Autobots once more in the latest animated series about robots in disguise:
Transformers: Cybertron!
The new show comes to DVD later this year thanks to Hasbro's distribution deal with Paramount Home Entertainment. Prime leads his Autobot forces around the galaxy, hunting down the ancient Cyber-Planet Keys that are needed to unlock Cybertron from its long-held planet mode, transforming it into the one robot large enough to save the galaxy from an encroaching black hole that threatens to destroy all! But Megatron and the Decepticons are also trying to get the keys, and their reasons aren't the same as Prime's. So the race - and fight - is on!
Originally planned to reach DVD in August, Paramount has pushed the schedule back a bit, and it looks like we'll see the first release hit sometime in the Fall. The title is
Transformers: Cybertron - Vol. 1: A New Beginning. Details haven't been announced yet, but we expect the DVD to contain a total of 4 episodes from among the early stories in the series. Here's a look at the cover art for this; stay tuned for more information just as soon as it's available.
