Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Lionsgate Announces a 'Season 3: Complete Set' for the Original Series **UPDATE: Cost**

Previously available only as four separate single-disc titles, this July you can finally buy all 47 episodes together as a season set!

Posted by David Lambert
Between 2004 and 2012, Lionsgate Entertainment released all 10 seasons on DVD of the original 1987 animated classic, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The first six DVD titles for this show were all single-disc items, labeled "Volume 1" through "Volume 6." This worked out great for the first two releases, as all of Season 1 (which was only 5 episodes) could fit onto a single DVD. And while Season 2 was longer (at 13 episodes), it could still be fit onto a single DVD as well.

The third season, however, was 47 episodes, and so Lionsgate had split them up among Volume 3, Volume 4, Volume 5 and Volume 6...all single-disc titles. As the popularity of the show became evident to the studio, and the DVDs sold well, they decided with 2007's release of Season 4 to go with a multi-DVD package (4 discs), and kept on putting out season sets for all the remaining titles (although the seventh season was also available in four single-disc "parts," for people who preferred it that way; note that 4 discs were also needed for Season 7; there were 3 discs on Season 5, and all the others were 1- or 2-disc titles due to shorter seasons).

Now Lionsgate has decided to go back and re-address the third season, making it available all together for the first time ever as a season set. Today the studio has informed retailers that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Season 3: Complete Set will be shipped to stores with a street date of July 23rd, as a 4-disc package running 1081 minutes. All 47 episodes are together in one collection, which is the only time this has happened outside of Lionsgate's 2012 release of "The Complete Classic Series Collection" (containing every episode in the entire show's run). On this new Season 3 set, those episodes are subtitled in English and Spanish, and also have been closed captioned for those who need it. Pricing and package art haven't been provided yet, but please stay tuned for that. In the meantime, here's a description provided by the studio for this new title:
Relive all your favorite Season 3 mutant kung-fu action in this 47-episode complete season collection - available for the first time as a season set on DVD! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are bursting straight out of the sewer and ready for some mind-blowing mutant-morphing pizza- powered action! Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Leonardo continue their epic quest to battle evil in this Complete Season 3 Collection, featuring 47 out-of-the-shell episodes. Join the green machine and their friends as they help to save the world against Krang, Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady - one slice at a time.
UPDATE (4/30): Our retailer contacts have now informed us that the cost of this title, confirmed to have a street date of July 23rd, will be $19.98 SRP. Artwork still isn't available yet, but stay tuned!
