Super Friends. The series featured the adventures of DC Comics book heroes Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. These five superheroes - along with superheroes-in-training Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog - focused their abilities on putting away criminals, saving lives, and stopping terrible disasters.
Each episode of the Super Friends was geared to present not only action, but also some lesson of educational value. A number of other famous DC comic book heroes appeared: Plastic Man, The Flash, and Green Arrow. Eight 1-hour timeless adventures in a Deluxe 2-Disc Collector's Edition showcase the universe's greatest heroes, paving the way for a brighter future.
The main incarnation of the long-lived show that hasn't been released on DVD up until now happens to be the very first version of the show, which aired in 1973. Warner Home Video is coming to the rescue, though, with their announcement this morning for Super Friends - Season 1, Volume 1 on a 2-DVD set, coming out on January 5th. The 352-minute set contains these 8 hour-long episodes, at a cost of $26.99 SRP:
- The Power Pirate
- The Baffles Puzzle
- Professor Goodfellow's G.E.E.C.
- The Weather Maker
- Dr. Pelagian's War
- The Shamon 'U'
- Too Hot to Handle
- The Androids
UPDATE: Warner has also informed us that there will be a bit of bonus material on this release. They say that "True fans can give their memory banks a workout with the Super Friends interactive Trivia Challenge Quiz game!" Our thanks to the studio for this additional info. We've also passed along word to them regarding the cover art, especially as regards the incorrect logo being used for Wonder Woman. FURTHER UPDATE: Warner Home Video has now informed us that the Wonder Woman issue will be fixed.
Here's a high-res, 3D look at the package art...but it's looking rather thick at the spine for a 2-disc set, isn't it? So we imagine this will end up being a bit thinner on store shelves (and your shelves at home!):
