This morning we were surfing around Amazon.com, as we often are in the process of trying to find nifty things to pass along to you, and we noticed something was a bit different than yesterday. Glancing at Amazon's
pre-order listings, for
Smallville - The Complete 8th Season (due
August 25th on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc), we see that the DVD box art is the same. However, the packaging for the high-def Blu-ray version was different, switching out from a shot of Clark and Lois inside the offices of the
Daily Planet, to a "cityscape" view focusing on the
Daily Planet building itself!
We sent an e-mail to Warner Home Video asking about this, but were unable to receive a reply this afternoon, in time for this story. Still, a quick check of Warner's password-protected press site yielded a look at the package art variations for this title. The DVD version is indeed still an "office" shot, as before. The Blu-ray version seemed to have three variations: one the insert of the blue-colored plastic case, which was still the office shot. Then two more, both outer cases for the Blu-ray to slide into. One is an "o-ring" (just like the
Season 7 Blu-ray) which had the office shot, as
we've shown before. The other picture is a 3D version of the one was saw at Amazon, which the plastic case slides into from the side rather than the top or bottom. It also seems to have a metallic appearance to it, but maybe that's just us. We obviously don't know yet what the nature is of this change, but we've got a big look at that alternate package art for you below (with the still-current DVD art shown at bottom):
