The other day we posted news that Paramount is preparing an October 7th release of T.V. Sets: Holiday Treats, a single-disc release collecting "8 heart-warming classic TV episodes" from various shows: Taxi, Family Ties, I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, The Brady Bunch, The Andy Griffith Show, Frasier and Wings. Now one of our readers, Joe Thompson, has written in with some interesting info about this release!
Here at the site, we *thought* the whole thing had a familiar-sounding ring to it, but we couldn't put our finger on it. We're thankful to Joe, who wrote in and commented that "...that this looks to be a re-package of a DVD given out for free with purchases of TV-DVD sets last Christmas at FYE. It was also produced by Paramount, and had the exact same episodes on it."
Now, we know Joe meant "shows," not "episodes": the studio hasn't revealed which episodes will be on the upcoming release yet. But, Joe was great enough to scan his FYE promo box and disc and send the pictures to us. We've got that for you below, just under the list of episodes from that item. So, if it turns out to be the same thing, re-purposed for a retail release, we'll have the heads-up on where it all came from. As it turns out, the list price for the upcoming release is $12.99 SRP, but Amazon is taking pre-orders (use the link button above) for $8.99, as of this writing.
Oh, and for people interested in the Taxi angle: the episode listed below turns out to be from the first season, so it's already on DVD in the Season 1 set. Therefore, if this list is identical to the October 7th release, then there won't be anything new for Taxi fans after all.
