Social media sites have become the "in thing" lately, and a lot of websites are creating a presence on Twitter, Facebook and/or MySpace just because "it seems like the thing to do" (that's an actual quote, by the way). Here at TVShowsOnDVD, we didn't want to just jump on the bandwagon without being able to offer something more than just our logo on a social media site's account.
For folks who are interested in DVDs full of TV episodes, we wanted to give them an additional way to get all the latest news and reviews in case they can't always drop straight by the site. That's still the best way to keep up with everything new, of course, but if you aren't making it by our site except for once in a blue moon, then following us on Twitter or friending us on Facebook is a way to keep up with all the biggest headlines.
With our longtime readers who already visit our site regularly, we wanted to offer a way to get something more: a way to talk to Webmaster Gord and News dude Dave more directly. To give feedback about our stories, or feedback about the latest releases. To get reminders about what's coming out each week. Or get "extra news" about a special TV-DVD type sale at Amazon, or other info that we wouldn't normally cover at the main site. Or to share some extra pictures that we couldn't actually work into a news post or a review, but you might find cool anyway. Also, if there's a technical problem with the main site, then this is a good place for us to keep readers informed of what's going on, what the status is, and any ETA about when we'll be back "on-air".
Back in mid-March we
went live on Twitter with an account there. And now we're ready to take the next step. We gave it away two paragraphs ago, but let's make it official: we now have
a TVShowsOnDVD.com fan page on Facebook. It's live right now, and ready for you to come be our fans...or friends, really.
Facebook fan pages give us a "Wall" tab that is the main stream of posts between our fans and us. There you'll see all the latest headlines and reviews, including links to the entire write-up at the main TVShowsOnDVD.com site. Our fans can comment on this tab about these, but be warned that we'll be reading and moderating those comments (so please: no spoilers, no spam, no vulgarity, no insulting, no discussion of illegal activities, no politics/religion/philosophy, and generally just stick to the topic...common-sense guidelines). The "Info" tab tells a little bit about us. The "Discussions" tab is for you, to come and talk to each other and meet other fans of TV-on-DVD releases (we reserve the right to moderate those posts as well, per the guidelines above). And then there's the "Photos" tab, which currently shows a few pictures of the TVShowsOnDVD staff (so you can get a gander at us!), but which can also be used for fan-loaded pictures as well. So if you want to show off your TV-on-DVD (or TV-on-Blu) collection, or discuss a screen shot of a scene (again no spoilers, please: some fans of a show haven't had a chance to view these episodes yet!), or whatever, we'll have a place for those to go where all the fans at our page can see them.

If you're not already a member of Facebook, don't be shy...it's free, and it won't hurt your computer. In fact, you'll probably find lots of friends - old and recent - who use the service, because it's a great way to keep in touch with everybody. If you want to just read and not post anything, that's okay as well: lurking is a good way to dip a toe in! We hope to see everybody there.
