Following the 2009 release of the show's ninth series,
Red Dwarf - Back to Earth, plans got under way for a tenth series of the long-lasting British show. And a few weeks ago,
an update at the official U.K. website had a number of things to say about the production of
Red Dwarf - X, and near the end that late-June write-up they had this to say about home video release plans:
This week, efforts have been concentrated on finishing the extensive behind-the-scenes documentary and other special features for the hugely packed DVD and Blu-ray releases - currently scheduled to follow the broadcast of the series almost immediately and hit homes in November.
But the obvious question with that statement has surrounded the observation that there's nothing in it to say if it's just speaking of plans for the UK and/or Europe in general, or whether the USA and Canada are included in that description as well. We weren't sure before, but now reader Mark Hunt (thanks!) has alerted us that the "Latest News" crawl across the top of that official website has gotten a tidbit which answers the question quite clearly: "
Red Dwarf X DVD and Blu-ray to be released November 2012 worldwide" (see screen-captured image below). So worldwide releases of
Red Dwarf - X, including North America, will be available in standard and high-def formats in time for the holiday season. Sweet! Stay tuned, of course, for official BBC announcements with all the details and box artwork.
