Night Court - Order in the Court! The Complete 2nd Season DVDs are Announced and on the Docket!

3-disc set in February introduces Billie, Mac & Christine; shows Selma's final episodes

Posted by David Lambert
Several weeks ago the execs from Warner Home Video participated in a live online chat sponsored by our friends at the website. Gord and I were there, and I managed to get a lengthy question in. Part of that question included whether we would see more Night Court - one of my personal all-time favorites! - come to DVD. Warner absolutely made my evening shine by responding that fans should "Look for the long awaited Season 2 DVD coming next year!"

This morning the studio has made it official and formally announced Night Court - The Complete 2nd Season for release on DVD this coming February 3rd. It will be a 3-disc set running 506 minutes for 22 episodes. Harry Anderson stars as the honorable Judge Harold "Harry" Stone, John Larroquette in his multiple Emmy-winning role as Assistant D.A. Dan Fielding, Richard Moll as Bailiff "Bull" Shannon, and Selma Diamond in her final season as Bailiff Selma Hacker, prior to her death. Charles Robinson joins the cast as court clerk "Mac" Robinson, which means we also get our first look at Denice Kumagai as Quon Le Robinson.

In the second episode of Season 2 we are introduced to Markie Post as Public Defender Christine Sullivan...a single guest appearance for this season, but one that proved to be so popular that the actress and character would return to the show permanently beginning with the third season. In the meantime this year we had a fine public defender in Billie Young, played by rock singer Ellen Foley (best known as the female voice on Meat Loaf's classic song "Paradise by the Dashboard Light").

John Astin (The Addams Family, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.) is seen as a guest star in the ninth episode of this year, but not yet as his best-known Night Court character "Buddy Ryan"; that character debuts in the fourth season premiere episode. Near the end of the season we also see stand-up comic Yakov Smirnoff (Moscow on the Hudson), making his second of several recurring appearances on the show as "Yakov."

Other guest stars through the second season included Dinah Manoff (Soap, Empty Nest), Michael Tucci (Paper Chase, Diagnosis Murder), Miriam Flynn (Mr. Mom, Grounded For Life), Pamela Adlon (King of the Hill, Californication), Vincent Schiavelli (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai), Ray Walston (My Favorite Martian, Picket Fences, Fast Times at Ridgemont High), Stella Stevens (The Nutty Professor, The Poseidon Adventure, Flamingo Road), Michael Richards (Seinfeld, Fridays), James Cromwell (Babe, Star Trek: First Contact, Six Feet Under), Jack Gilford (Catch-22, Caveman, Cocoon), Alan Oppenheimer (The Six Million Dollar Man, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe), Bruce Kirby (Kojak, L.A. Law), Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk, Sinbad of the Seven Seas), Elisha Cook Jr. (The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Shane), Mimi Kennedy (Homefront, Dharma & Greg) and Gordon Jump (Soap, WKRP in Cincinnati).

Cost is a mere $29.98 SRP, so this is certainly priced to own! Video will be presented full frame, with English audio and subtitles in English and French. Package art isn't available yet this morning, but we've got the studio description and episode list for you in the meantime:
Disorder in the court! Judge Harold T. Stone, Dan, Bull and Selma return for a rollicking second season of dispensing justice to the assorted nuts of Night Court. New to the courtroom: Noo Yawk-savvy defender Billie Young and Vietnam vet Mac Robinson, the court clerk. On the 22-episode docket: an invisible man, a mogul madam, a lovelorn nun, hookers, pickpockets, flashers, wackos, weirdos, gonzos and great guest stars, including Michael Richards, Stella Stevens, Jack Gilford, John Astin, Lou Ferrigno and, as substitute defender Christine Sullivan, Markie Post, who will become a full-time cast member in Season 3.
