This past February we
broke the news that MPI Home Video is releasing a DVD with the classic 1967 sitcom,
The Mothers-in-Law. The show starred Eve Arden and Kaye Ballard, and the show was created by Bob Carroll and Madelyn Davis (writers on
I Love Lucy), and Desi Arnaz produced and directed. The word was that these would be out "later in 2009," but no specific date was available yet.
This past July, due to the
Lucy-related tie-ins of this show,
The Mothers-in-Law DVD plans were mentioned on an insert about MPI Home Video's Lucille Ball-related releases, which was found in CBS/Paramount's
The Lucy Show - The Official 1st Season DVD set. The insert even included an early look at possible box art.
We haven't shown a scan of that picture here at TVShowsOnDVD yet, because our contact at MPI told us that "it will change" (they didn't say how much or how little), and asked us to hold off. It's also become apparent, since MPI's schedule for the rest of 2009 has been announced, that
The Mothers-in-Law won't make it this year after all. We've been informed that the title was delayed in order to remaster the episodes, and put together even more bonus material ("it will be loaded" are the words our contact used), and make the best possible release.
Honestly, our contact preferred to wait on us posting this update until they had more in-depth information to pass along. However, word is beginning to get around the net, and some of the info is not correct. For example, a "Jan/Feb" timeframe has been mentioned elsewhere for when this item will be available. Our contact at MPI, who's very closely working on this project, disagrees: "not before
second quarter next year" (meaning April, May or June 2010). And that is all we know right now, but there's more to come. Stay tuned and we'll keep you filled in! Our thanks to everyone who wrote in asking about this title.
