M.A.N.T.I.S. - SURPRISE! Image Prepping DVD Release Of Short-Lived Superhero Series

From the creators of The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness comes the crime-fighting saga that beats them all! Using a newly-invented metal exoskeleton which provides superhuman abilities, wheelchair-bound Dr. Miles Hawkins (Alias' Carl Lumbly) embarks on a quest to rid his city of the ever-growing plague of crime terrorizing its citizens. Also starring Bobby Hosea (Independence Day) and Gina Torres (Angel, Firefly, Serenity), this action-packed series broke new ground with television's first African-American superhero and became an instant cult favorite, now available complete for the first time on DVD!
Image Entertainment is planning a treat this summer for fans of sci-fi/comic-book-hero style TV shows: M.A.N.T.I.S., the hour-long adventure show that aired on the Fox Network in 1994, is coming to DVD at last! They're calling the release "M.A.N.T.I.S. - Season 1" even though the show really only lasted a single season: there was a feature-length pilot telefilm in January 1994 and then 20 aired episodes, then 2 unaired episodes which finally made their broadcast debut in 1997 in reruns on the Sci Fi Channel.

Sam Raimi exec produced this show almost a decade before helming the first movie in the Spider-Man film trilogy. Among the guest stars - both single-appearance and recurring - that you'll find in those episodes are Don S. Davis, David Kaye, Jerry Wasserman, Gary Graham, Teryl Rothery, Lorena Gale, John D'Aquino, Vincent Schiavelli and probably a ton of others that we're overlooking.

So far Image's info is limited to the the description quoted at the top of this story, but since it says this DVD will be "complete" then we assume all of that content - 23 episodes (counting the double-length pilot as one episode) - will be included. Cost will be $49.99 SRP, and you'll be able to pick this up on June 10th. Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated with further info, including box art, just as soon as its available. Until then, call me... the Mantis!
