Leave It to Beaver - An Online Retailer's Q&A Says 'The Beav' is Coming Complete in 2009...Is It?

Our close-to-the-situation industry source gives us the scoop on whether this is accurate

Movies Unlimited, a 30-year old home video retailer based out of Philadelphia, runs a regular "Hollywood Q&A" column, where their customers often ask "Movie Irv" about their favorite films, and whether a release of it might be in the works. In the most recent column, dated August 31st, a reader asked about Leave It To Beaver:
    Q) ...Also, have you heard anything if they are planning on releasing any more seasons of Leave It To Beaver.

    A) ...As for the Beav, look for a complete show set sometime in 2009. Gee, Wally.
This answer by "Movie Irv" fascinated us, since Universal Studios Home Entertainment had released the first season on DVD in 2005, and the second season in 2006, and since then we hadn't heard anything. But last year rival studio Paramount had released Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist - The Complete Series on DVD, with all six seasons, even though only the first two seasons had been released separately. Could Universal be pursuing a similar strategy with The Beav?

We asked around, naturally. And our research led us to somebody who did not want their name or organization to be used, but would most certainly be "in the know" about Universal's plans for this series. What did our independent industry source say? That "No Beaver plans, complete or otherwise, are on the boards at this time."

So we're sorry to dash the hopes of Leave it to Beaver fans all over the 'net, where Irv's answer has been spreading like wildfire. It sounds like Universal doesn't have it on their radar right now. That's not to say they never will, of course. But this is one grapevine rumor that isn't going to bear any fruit at the moment. Stay tuned, though, and if we DO hear of something coming through for the Cleaver family, we'll certainly let you know!
