Last week Universal
announced the February 3rd release of the
Columbo - Mystery Movie Collection 1990 on DVD. What does this have to do with
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit? As you see below, the studio has provided retailers with a preview of an upcoming trade magazine advertisement that includes the
Columbo release. But it also shows off two other upcoming DVD releases, including
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The 8th Year!!
As you can see from the advert below, and also on the close-up picture of the package art which follows it, this will be a 5-disc set with 22 episodes. The fine print under the box says that the price will be $59.98 SRP. A release date isn't provided here, though...just a pre-order due date. That's the deadline by which retailers must have placed their orders with the studio in order to have their copies in stock by street date. Since the order due date for
L&O:SVU is two weeks later than the order due date for
Columbo, and since we know
Columbo streets on Feb. 3rd, then it's okay to estimate that
SVU's 8th Season set will arrive
around Feb. 17th...but again, that's really just a guess for now. The studio hasn't officially announced this title so far, but stay tuned and we'll update you further when we find out more!
