Fans of the Don Bellisario-created show
JAG (starring David James Elliott and co-starring first Tracey Needham when the show first launched and then Catherine Bell for the remainder of the show's run) have been hungry - VERY hungry - to get their favorite series on DVD. What's the hold-up been? We've been sort-of low key about it, but we *did* mention it in passing
in a news post concerning Bellasario's
Airwolf last February:
Bellisario is also behind current primetime hits N.C.I.S. and the long-running JAG, which are owned by another studio and not yet planned for DVD (the latter due to a syndication deal which precludes a home video release).
JAG is currently the #2 most-requested series here at TVShowsOnDVD that is unreleased so far. Fans have been loud and clear in their desire for this show...none more than my own brother, Brian, so asks about this almost every time we speak on the phone. Now it looks like CBS Video distributor, Paramount Home Entertainment, is finally getting past the legal issue and making some DVDs happen! (Guess who I'm about to phone?)
Paramount Home Entertainment's press site consists of folders for every property they may bring out onto home video. When there's no folder, there's no release. When there is a folder, then a release is on the way or already here. Now there's a new folder on that password-protected press site, and it is labeled
JAG - Season 1. That's awesomely cool, don't you think?
The folder in question is currently empty, which means that there's no artwork, no specs, no description, and no release date. It's a cinch this is probably coming in 2006, but beyond that reasonable expectation we have nothing more to tell you right now. Paramount was unable to comment on this and other titles when we attempted to reach them late this afternoon, but pledged to look into them for us early next week. So stay tuned, and we'll let you know what we find out!
