This past Friday morning Universal officially announced
The Incredible Hulk - The Complete 3rd Season AND
The Incredible Hulk - The Complete 4th Season, both packages arriving in stores on
June 3rd. Later in the day the studio
revealed the artwork for both packages, noting that both would feature a lenticular cover. We pointed out at the time that
the 1st Season DVD set had a lenticular cover, but that
the 2nd Season set did not.
This morning Universal Studios Home Entertainment revealed that there WILL be a lenticular cover art re-package for the second season. There was no big announcement for it, nor has a "release date" been listed for the new version of the packaging. But they revealed the new art, with a banner proclaiming it to be a "collectible lenticular package" similar to Friday's pictures of the 3rd and 4th season. We can only assume the eventual 5th season release will get lenticular art, too.
This box update makes sense, in a way, because it would be odd to have lenticular packages on all the season sets except for one. On the other hand, though, fans who ALREADY own the non-lenticular package version of the second season (myself included!) can't help but feel like we're getting the short end of the stick here. Hopefully Universal will consider a trade-in program for fans that already have the set, especially since it's just a matter of sending the outer "slipcase" box, which they can flatten and ship out quite easily.
