Last week we
had the scoop on details and package art for Davis-Panzer Productions'
September 15th online exclusive release of
Highlander: The Series - Season 1 on high-def Blu-ray Disc. In addition to revised versions of the front and rear package art that we showed you in our previous report, Davis-Panzer has been kind enough to share with us these exclusive pictures of the interior of the package.
Also at bottom you'll see a sample screen shot, which shows off the decorative "pillars" which frame the video image. These are used because the original broadcast format is full frame (1.33:1, or 4x3), and high-definition 1080p is naturally a widescreen (1.78:1, or 16x9) image. Rather than leave that space black, the studio has chosen to fill that space with these pillars. Our contact assures us that "
They will be very subtle to make sure they are not distracting. It's actually a really neat effect - the pillars will not be static." Sounds cool; we can't wait to see for ourselves!
First we have the revised outer box, which has changed out the key character art on both front and rear. We see the rear has also been changed to include more detail about the bonus material, but even now these aren't necessarily finalized; in fact the studio advises that they are revising the rear box again right now, to add a bonus feature that wasn't listed). Below those are the various pictures of the interior artwork, and finally the sample screen shot (please note that we are not attempting to duplicate the 1080p resolution of that image here). Be sure to pre-order your copy at the link we've provided above! And we've noticed that the listing there has been updated to mention that it includes a $10-off coupon good toward a future purchase of the
Season 2 Blu-ray, which is a pretty darn good indicator that they are already working on it. Stay tuned for info about that!
