Mornin', parda'! Y'all are jus' gonna love this here news!
Okay, I'll stop with the "cowboy" accent. I couldn't really talk like that, even back when I lived in Texas. Besides, our next stop isn't the Lone Star State; it's Dodge City, Kansas...home of Marshal Matt Dillon. Our friends in the home video industry have given us the heads-up that CBS/Paramount is planning on releasing more Gunsmoke DVDs. But, unlike the previous packages, the next release is supposed to be a "Season 1" set!
Gunsmoke lasted for 20 years on television, and is considered to be the longest-running fictional USA-made program to ever air continuously under the same title (some overseas programs, notably Doctor Who, have had longer runs). James Arness starred as Matt Dillon, after being recommended for the role by none other than John Wayne (who introduced the first episode). There was some thought that, due to the shear number of seasons involved, the studio would never try to go the season-set route with this particular series. But our sources tell us that CBS/Paramount is going to give it a try, based on good sales of the 3 multi-disc "best of" box sets they've released in the past.
The tentative release date is July 17th. That is subject to change, while we wait on the studio to formally announce it. Stay tuned, and we'll let you know when that happens!
