Gunsmoke - 4th Season Episode Mistakenly Included On 2nd Season DVDs CBS/Paramount Kills Instead of Cures

This past Tuesday, January 8th, saw CBS/Paramount's release of Gunsmoke - The 2nd Season, Volume 1 on a 3-DVD set. Almost immediately upon its release, however, we began getting reports from readers that the first disc contained an episode from the 4th season, mistakenly inserted in place of a Season 2 episode with a similar name! One of the best descriptions of this problem came from reader Rod Phillips, so we'll quote him here: ...the show on Disc One called "How To Cure A Friend" is actually a show from Season Four called "How To Kill A Friend": "How To Cure A Friend" aired 11/10/1956 and starred the actor Andrew Duggan. "How To Kill A Friend" aired 11/22/1958 and, ironically, involved a character named "Harry Duggan." Someone was a little careless and switched the similarly titled shows from Season Two and Season Four. What caught my eye was "MCMLVIII" on the end title. 1958 shouldn't have been in a Season Two set! Thanks, Rod, for that detailed description. We've contacted the studio about this issue, and they are looking into it. We've held off for a few days on posting this story, hoping to have more to tell you on the studio's behalf, but they are still working on this. We'll let you know anything we find out about the situation, so stay tuned!
