Just this past Friday we
reported about Amazon.com's surprise
pre-order listing for
Grey's Anatomy - Season 1 on DVD. It was a surprise to us because Buena Vista hasn't announced this yet, and it's strange that the studio would want retailers to post pre-orders for an upcoming release before the general press found out about it and helped build up interest in the title. It's not the first time this happened, and probably won't be the last, but recent events show that Disney/Buena Vista has apparently made a conscious decision to work this way. As we said, strange.
But industry trade magazine
Video Business has gotten the goods on this DVD set in any case, and they have a write-up for it in this week's new print issue. As we said last Friday, the SRP is $29.99 (Amazon discounts it to $20.99 if you place a pre-order with them now). Since there are only 9 episodes, it's not a big surprise that
VB says this is only a 2-DVD set. Well, it is SOMEWHAT of a surprise: it seems a bit much to squeeze 9 episodes of an hour-long show onto just two discs, especially when you consider all the supplements that
VB says will be present:
- A vignette of unaired, extended scenes from the pilot
- A making-of featurette
- Deleted scenes
- An alternative main title sequence
- Commentaries
February 14th is confirmed in
VB's story as the release date for the release of this highly popular series. We're waiting for a studio press release (or, failing that, more online retailers to post information and cover art), so stay tuned and we'll report more about this release just as soon as we can.
