Franklin & Bash - An Update, of Sorts, About 'The Complete 2nd Season' DVDs

Sony has never formally announced the title, and IF it comes to DVD it seems it will be via MOD

Posted by David Lambert
Early in April we posted early info about Sony's plans at the time for Franklin & Bash - The Complete 2nd Season on DVD. Word at the time was that the set would be available this month, June, and some fans seem to have assumed that this meant they would be able to buy it before the third season's broadcast premiere (which was earlier this week). That obviously didn't happen, and although the month isn't over yet and we suppose the title could still come out before the next nine days have passed, it does seem rather unlikely.

In the end, most of our readers know that we pass on info that we're confident in, but that the home video industry is full of changed plans all the time, for all sorts of reasons. In this case, Sony hasn't made any information available to us about Franklin & Bash - The Complete 2nd Season DVDs, so all we can work with are our various industry contacts. The one who passed along the "June" plans to us a couple of months ago is usually dead-on correct, and they tell me they saw the item on Sony's retailer schedule at the time. Since then, however, we can only assume that the studio changed their minds. Apparently, that's in more ways than one!

In our previous report, we passed along that "our contact indicates to us that the studio might choose to go the MOD (manufacture on demand) route this time, instead of putting it in stores"; now we've got word from MULTIPLE sources that one of the changes is that the studio is indeed going to bring this show over to their MOD program. The reason we're given is that Franklin & Bash's first season on DVD unfortunately sold way under expectations at traditional retail, and so the brick-and-mortar chains are reluctant to continue with season sets that they expect to just sit on their shelves. That's clearly not official info, though, since it didn't come from Sony themselves.

We do know that Franklin & Bash second season episodes are available right now via Electronic Sell-Through ("EST") delivery methods (i.e., digital streaming, such as Amazon Instant Video and others). Apparently Sony DOES still hope to release The Complete 2nd Season on DVD, as an MOD title, in the future. How soon that will be is currently unknown. We're not even sure if the studio has made that decision yet. We'll let you know more, when and if Sony makes an official announcement. For right now, though, we recommend that you consider this title "on hold." Stay tuned and we'll hope to update you when we can.
