It's been a month since we got the duo-release of Fraggle Rock - The Complete 1st Season and Fraggle Rock - Vol 4: Doin' Things That Doozers Do, and it's well past time to update you one several fronts with the future of Fraggle Rock on DVD.

But first, we need to take care of something long overdue. We've never posted the cover art to Doin' Things That Doozers Do here at TVShowsOnDVD, so let's correct that really quick, especially since it is a neat cover:

News Graphic

Nice, eh? As shocking as it may seem sometimes to season-set lovers, there are indeed consumers who prefer the less expensive best-of releases, and HIT! Entertainment is continuing that line even as they make plans for future season sets. To satisfy the patrons who prefer their Fraggle single-disc style, HIT! has scheduled a January 17th street date for Fraggle Rock - Vol 5: Down In Fraggle Rock. This 75-minute-long entry will have a list price of $11.99, but you can get it for $8.39 if you pre-order it from Amazon.com. Cover art isn't available yet, nor is an episode list or any extras, but stay tuned and we'll bring that to you when we get it.

Now let's move on and see what's happening on the season set front. Reader Edwin Nelson pointed out to us that the folks at the Muppet NewsFlash blog had posted several weeks ago an article about Fraggle Rock season sets. There are 5 seasons of Fraggle Rock, and fans want to know if all of these are on HIT!'s mind. According to both parts of the story, they are. Here's a quote from the second part of the story, in which the plans are described:
With such a big product for HIT (a company that normally releases small single-disc DVDs) they are going to not want to over extend themselves (and they will want to “milk” the big collectors’ item for all they can). They do not want to rush. HIT has the distribution rights to Fraggle Rock until 2009 (and they may end up extending the contract with Henson), so even at a season set per year they could still get the whole show out (season 1 in fall 2005, season 2 in fall 2006, season 3 in fall 2007, season 4 in fall 2008, and season 5 in fall 2009 – plus seasons 4 and 5 are half the size of the other seasons, so a “complete 4th & 5th seasons” set might be how the series ends instead of two separate sets). Only time will tell, but HIT producers say that they don’t want to rush into it and just pump out the next season right away...
It is interesting to note that the timeframe for their current license allows HIT! to use the once-a-year timeframe and still make it in under the wire. In the first part of the story, though, the writer describes a possible scenario (it looks like a hypothesis, and not a solid plan) for a two-season-sets-per-yer situation that gets it all done by the end of 2007. What route will the DVD producers take? Only time will tell, as they continue their research and development phase for the next season set. Stay tuned, and we'll let you know as further updates reach us.

Correction: Our initial story had information pertaining to the second season of The Muppet Show; it's been removed (sorry!).
