reported Thursday after Amazon.com jumped the gun and posted a listing (that isn't taking pre-orders yet) showing the date,
I Dream of Jeannie - The Complete 5th and Final Season arrives on
July 8th. This morning Sony Pictures Home Entertainment formally announced the set, which will contain 26 episodes on 4 DVDs.
As we've mentioned before, among the guest stars you'll see on this last season set are Jackie Coogan (
The Addams Family), Judith Baldwin (
Rescue from Gilligan's Island), Farrah Fawcett (
Charlie's Angels), Michael Ansara (
Star Trek's "Kang" and Barbara Eden's husband at the time), Alan Oppenheimer (
The Six Million Dollar Man, He-Man), Ned Wertimer (
The Jeffersons), Herbert Rudley (
The Mothers-In-Law) and Dick Van Patten (
Eight is Enough).
To answer reader questions about it: no, the two reunion telefilms (1985's
I Dream of Jeannie: 15 Years Later and 1991's
I Still Dream of Jeannie) are apparently NOT included on this release. In fact, to our knowledge this set is almost bare-bones, only containing the
IDoJ episodes from the 1969-1970 season and POSSIBLY a couple of Sony's "mini-sodes" (other sitcom episodes, super-edited down to just a 3-6 minute running time).
Running time is given in Sony's announcement materials as "628 minutes". Video will be 1.33:1 full frame, audio is in Mono format for English, Spanish and Portuguese. Expect subtitles in Spanish and Portuguese as well, plus closed captioning for the hearing impaired. Cost is $39.95 SRP, and Amazon will discount it once they begin taking pre-orders at
their listing for this package.
By now you've most certainly noticed the medium-sized early cover art we're showing for this release! Sony sent it to retailers along with the early info listed above, but notes that it is subject to change. We'll have full-sized final artwork for you once Sony provides it. In the meantime, the guys over at the fan site IDreamOfJeannieFans.net have advised us that they have
posted a bit larger look at this same front cover, plus a similar-sized look at the back of the box as well. Wow, we've only held onto our info and art for a week, waiting for Sony's official announcement date. They say they've had their pictures since February. Holy smokes!
