In mid-2005, Universal Studios Home Video released
Dragnet 1967 - Season 1 on DVD, the first season of the most popular version of the classic show that was created, produced, and directed by the show's star, Jack Webb. As Sgt. Joe Friday, he and his partner Bill Gannon (Harry Morgan,
M*A*S*H) wanted "just the facts" in order to solve crimes that were drawn on the actual police files ("
the story you are about to hear is true; only the names have been changed to protect the innocent").
The program's DVD releases have been stalled over at Universal, however, and so far we haven't seen the second season of the show (28 episodes which ran during the 1967-68 broadcast season). Now the folks from Shout! Factory have struck a deal with them, to pick up the license and run with it:
Dragnet 1968 - Season 2 (as the box art shown below proclaims the title to be) is coming out as a 6-DVD set on
July 6th. The collection runs approximately 810 minutes long, at a cost of $44.99 SRP. You can pre-order it right away, however, from Amazon.com at a discount using the button link immediately below.
