We broke the news
back in February, two months before the new season debuted, Amazon.com had begun taking pre-orders for both Doctor Who - The 10th Series, Part 1
and also Doctor Who - The 10th Series, Part 2
. Since then, Part 1
has already been released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Now, with the season finale having aired two weeks ago, fans have been waiting to see the second half of the season on DVD and Blu-ray, too.
In the February report, we passed along that Amazon was showing August 1st as the release date for Doctor Who - The 10th Series, Part 2
. Later on, however, Amazon removed the date from their Part 2
entries...indicating that the date hadn't been finalized yet by the folks at BBC Home Entertainment. We've been waiting since then to share a new street date with you all, on both formats.
Now the BBC Shop has added pre-order listings for Doctor Who - The 10th Series, Part 2
on both DVD
and high-def Blu-ray Disc
. Both listings show a new street date of September 12th
. Note that VideoETA, a site produced by distributor Ingram Entertainment, shows this title coming a week earlier...but we'll trust the info straight from the studio on this one!
List price continues to be $24.98 SRP for the DVD version, and $29.98 SRP for the Blu-ray. Both are currently discounted by $4-$5 at the BBC Shop, so you can pre-order now and save a bit of money! The package art currently displayed there is the same temp art we previously showed you for the Part 1
set...and that art ended up changing radically. We expect the artwork for Part 2
to change as well. No word yet on a Complete 10th Series
release, but stay tuned!
In the meantime, if you prefer to pre-order from Amazon.com (who still isn't showing any release date at all, but is discounting the title at an amount similar to the BBC Shop), you can lock in your copy there on both DVD
and on Blu-ray Disc
As has been widely publicized, this is Peter Capaldi's final season as the Doctor; he'll appear in this year's Christmas special, and then depart. So at this time we'll also mention that BBC One tweeted today
that this coming Sunday, on July 16th, they will introduce the 13th Doctor to the world following the Wimbledon men's final. If you're trying to avoid spoilers on which actor has been chosen for the role...well, it will be rather difficult to avoid, we think. But we've given you the heads-up, in any case.
