In its 14th and final season, Dallas goes out in a gusher of murders and kidnappings, lies and blackmail, seductions and schemes. J.R., Bobby and Cliff - three original characters so big only Big D could hold 'em - are at the heart of the action, surrounded by oil-country folks who joined the series over the years and a passel of dynamic newcomers. And of course there's that Dallas hallmark, a white-knuckle cliffhanger. This time it's a two-part finale inspired by It's a Wonderful Life in which J.R.'s guardian from the great beyond shows the Lone Star State's meanest rattler what the world would have been without him. Think everything's for the better? Then you're in for some surprises!
This morning Warner Home Video has announced that
Dallas - The Complete 14th and Final Season will be released on DVD this coming
January 18th. You'll get 22 episodes, including the double-length series finale "Conundrum," on a 6-disc set running approx. 1219 minutes. Guest stars include Susan Lucci, Mitch Pileggi, Barbara Eden (Larry Hagman's
I Dream of Jeannie co-star!), Mary Crosby, Ted Shackelford, Joan Van Ark, Tricia O'Neil and many more. Cost is $39.98 SRP, and package art is below. Considering that this is the show's last regular season on-air, is this therefore the end of the Ewings on DVD? Don't count on it, because there are still several
Dallas telefilms that aren't on the disc format yet! We'll let you know whenever those get announced for DVD in the future, so stay tuned.
UPDATE: Several readers have pointed out that the "6-disc" count for this set seemed odd, given that previous releases with even larger episode counts (such as
The Complete 13th Season, for example) came on 3 double-sided discs. These fans were wondering if Warner had decided, for
The Complete 14th and Final Season, to go with single-sided DVDs this time around. We checked in with our PR contacts at the studio, who researched it for us. They've come back with the answer, and here is what we were told: "6-disc set" is actually wrong. But it's not 3 double-sided discs, either. In fact, it's not double-sided at all. We're told that Warner's January release will come on
5 single-sided DVDs. Our thanks to them for the quick response!
