Following a rather long wait between Universal's DVD releases of
The Mystery Movie Collection 1989 in April 2007 and
The Mystery Movie Collection 1990 in February 2009, fans have been wondering if and when we'll see a further DVD release for
Columbo (after all, star Peter Falk played the character all the way to 2003). We think there's nothing to fear, though.
The answer apparently lies in this past summer's DVD release of
Murder, She Wrote - The Complete 10th Season (and possibly even with the 9th Season set, which came out this past February a few weeks apart from the most recent
Columbo set). Numerous readers, beginning with "Jack," have advised us since this summer that a trailer is on the
Murder, She Wrote sets talking about a further release of
Columbo. We were originally told it was just a "note," and we didn't pursue it much. But more recently another reader, "Jean-Gael R.," told us that there was an entire screen card specifically promoting that the
Columbo - The Mystery Movie Collection 1991-1992 title is "coming soon" to DVD. This weekend Jean-Gael was kind enough to provide us with a screen capture of that, and so we're sharing it with all of you for now. Stay tuned, and hopefully Universal will formally announce this title soon, so we can get you a date, pricing, box art and other further details. Our gratitude to Jean-Gael for going the extra mile!
