We've known since January, when it was mentioned in a
press release from Warner Home Video and Lucasfilm, that a multi-disc
Clone Wars - Complete Season 1 box set would arrive late in 2009, on both DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc. At the end of May we
mentioned that we could expect that release in early November. Now some more info has leaked out about this set.
Our friends over at Blu-ray.com maintain a message board area, and one of the topics in the section for domestic Blu-ray releases is "Clone Wars the Complete First Season coming to Blu-ray ". One of the posters in this thread goes by the handle of "DigitalfreakNYC", and a week ago he
stated he had hands-on knowledge of demo discs for the release, and passed along that "
There's going to be a ton of bonus features on them and it also looks like they're in their OAR of 2.35:1." He further
mentions that "
There are going to be directors cuts, commentaries, 2D and 3D initial renderings and more."
In that same follow-up post, DigitalfreakNYC describes the box this will come in: "
I saw the packaging which is not final at all. It's a book-type release with a large book in the center of all concept drawings for the characters and other parts of the series." In a later message
he posts a scan of "
the promo picture (he)
received. We've got a small look at it below, but you can see a larger look at it by clicking on the provided link. There's been some confusion in the message board over what the "FPO" watermark over the cover stands for. It's apparent that DigitalfreakNYC's source of this promo pic didn't explain the abbreviation to him or her: it mean "For Print Only", which usually indicates that the studio does not want the graphic scanned and distributed on the internet. Ah, well...too late. This item is now all over the web! We're sure that DigitalfreakNYC was just very eager to share something that is obviously a very exciting topic.
Despite the distribution of that image, DigitalfreakNYC
cautions it is not what he expects consumers to see in-store! "
That wasn't the cover they had for the mock-up that I held. Remember, it's going to be book-style with a ton of pages in between the case holders." Later he defines "ton" as being roughly 40 pages.

But as long as we're spreading rumors about
Clone Wars - Complete Season 1 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, we'll pass along one more: our sources now tell us that the specific release date for this title, in both formats, will be
November 3rd. Take it, and everything else we just told you, with a grain of salt. It's all subject to change! Stay tuned for the official announcement, once the studio makes it available.
