As you know, the long-awaited DVD release of Lindsay Wagner in
The Bionic Woman - Season 1 is coming at last! Universal Studios Home Entertainment is delivering the cyborg schoolteacher on
October 19th (with Colonel Steve Austin
coming home on DVD during the following month, courtesy of Time Life). Now Universal has delivered the package art for their 4-disc set, and we've got your first look at it below. This is a low-resolution shot, with an exaggeratedly large typeface that is meant for retailers to use in planning their weekly circular ad layouts; the final box image will be in higher resolution, and possibly with more detail. We'll bring that to you when it's available, so stay tuned...but in the meantime,
this is what the title will essentially look like on the shelf:
UPDATE (7/23): Following this post yesterday of Universal's
The Bionic Woman - Season 1 box art, we received LOTS of reader feedback about the packaging design. While a LARGE number of fans have not been thrilled with the overall look and feel of the cover, the more specific complaint we've seen a lot is that two of the images used (Jaime hanging from a helicopter, and Jaime running) are from
Season 3 episodes, and aren't really appropriate for a
Season 1 package. We immediately passed all of this on to Universal, and late yesterday the studio pulled the below artwork from circulation to press and retailers. Our contact at Universal informed us that they are going to try to revise it in time for the release date. We're uncertain if that applies to the overall look of the cover, though; the indication is that they'll simply try to replace the third-season pictures with some first-season pictures. Stay tuned, of course, and we'll bring you the revised packaging artwork just as soon as it's available! Our thanks to the studio for being so responsive.
