We
reported back in late January that Blu-ray Disc versions of
The Big Bang Theory - The Complete 1st Season and
The Big Bang Theory - The Complete 2nd Season were
up for pre-order at Amazon.com, filling int he BD gaps made when the show's first two seasons were put out on DVD only (Warner started Blu releases with the sitcom's third season set). We didn't have a date for you at the time, however, because Warner Home Video hadn't formally announced these items.
Today the studio has made it official, and scheduled both of these to arrive in stores on
July 10th. The pricing shown at Amazon of the 23-episode
Complete 2nd Season is confirmed at $54.97 SRP, but the previously-reported pricing of the 17-episode
Complete 1st Season was off a bit at Amazon: instead of the $34.99 SRP that the e-tailer shows, Warner's announcement today says the finalized cost will instead be $39.99 SRP.
Like the
recently-announced HBO/Warner release of
True Blood - The Complete 4th Season (which comes out at the end of May), the Blu-ray versions of
The Big Bang Theory - The Complete 1st Season and
The Big Bang Theory - The Complete 2nd Season will not only come with Blu-rays in the box! The studio announcement says that these sets are both a "Blu-ray/DVD Combo" package, that also includes Digital Downloads as well via the UltraViolet system (these may be redeemed up to two years after the street date of these items).
The Blu-ray version of
The Complete 1st Season will include the bonus Featurette "Quantum Mechanics of
The Big Bang Theory" (a behind-the-scenes look into geek chic) on both the BD and DVD versions included in the box. The Blu-ray version will also include a NEW Gag Reel, too! Warner's info about this new release of
The Complete 2nd Season doesn't mention any new extras, however...both the BD and DVD versions in this box include the same extras seen on the previous DVD set: "Physicist to the Stars" Featurette (real-life physicist/UCLA Professor David Saltzberg's consulting relationship to the show), "Testing the Infinite Hilarity Hypothesis in Relation to
The Big Bang Theory" Featurette (season two's unique characters and characteristics), and a (previously seen) Gag Reel.
Package art hasn't been supplied by Warner Home Video yet, but below we (once again) have the Blu-ray versions of the covers shown at Amazon since January. This may not be finalized artwork yet, however, and could be subject to change:
