Herman and Katnip are a duo of cartoon characters (Herman the mouse and Katnip the cat) from the 1950s. Includes the Complete Series!
During the late '50s/early '60s TV airings of
Beany & Cecil (a.k.a.
Matty's Funday Funnies), cartoons such as
Casper the Friendly Ghost were a staple of the show. Included among the animated entertainment were theatrical shorts of
Herman and Katnip, which went on to appear in countless other television shows featuring the Harveytoons-owned shorts produced by Famous Studios. Katnip the cat was voiced by Sid Raymond (who also voiced
Baby Huey as well as
Heckle & Jeckle), while Herman the mouse was voiced by Arnold Stang (who appeared in numerous live-action films but was also known as the voice of
Top Cat).
Classic Media has announced that on
September 6th they will put out
Herman and Katnip: The Complete Series, the first time these cartoons have appeared on DVD. This single-disc release will cost $7.93, and can be pre-ordered from Amazon.com using the button link below. They will be presented as originally shown in theaters and on television: in full-screen 1.33:1 video format and with English mono audio. Fans are well aware that these shorts have been censored in places over time, mostly for racial issues but also for scenes that were later decided to be unnecessarily violent. So far there's no word from the studio about whether this DVD included the uncensored versions of these cartoons. Stay tuned and we'll let you know, if we find anything out. In the meantime, here's the package art:
