This coming Tuesday, April 21st, sees the DVD release of
Caprica, the feature-length pilot of the prequel spin-off from the re-imagined
Battlestar Galactica series (this airs on the Sci Fi Channel in 2010, which by then will be the "SyFy Channel"). Our site's reviewer (and founder, and webmaster), Gord Lacey, received his advance copy of the
Caprica release, and was pleased to see a trailer on it to promote
Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Series on DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc (even though Universal hasn't formally announced those releases so far).
Back in February, we relayed
a report that this title would be coming out on
July 28th, and right now you can confirm that date "officially": Hulu.com has
a short video (1:31; registration required) that's described as "
A behind-the-scenes look at Composer Bear McCreary conducting the music of Battlestar Galactica.." The piece begins with some text, screen captured below, informing viewers to look for other behind-the-scenes material on
Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Series, on DVD and Blu-ray, available "07.28.09." Thanks to our friend, Bill Hunt of TheDigitalBits.com, for tipping us off to that item; he's also reported on this information yesterday evening.
Below our screen capture from Hulu, you'll see three screen captures Gord took from the trailer on the
Caprica DVD. One is a straight-on look at the DVD packaging for
Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Series, including a Cylon Centurion action figure which apparently comes with the set. Next is an angled look at the same item. Finally is a shot of the individual season and half-season sets that make up the package for
The Complete Series, which the trailer points out is sold separately. Noticeably abset from that last shot? A look at the packaging for the separate
Battlestar Galactica - Season 4.5 DVD set, which hasn't been formally announced by the studio yet, either, but is generally expected to be available on the same
July 28th release date.
As we've already reported, the
Season 4.5 and
The Complete Series releases are meant to include additional scenes not seen anywhere before, as well as new bonus material.
The Complete Series will also include
Razor, of course (as well each of the various webisode runs); the
Caprica trailer apparently confirms all of this. Here are a look at those four screen captures; stay tuned for updates and further developments!
