This past summer we
reported that Funimation's Blu-ray release for Samuel L. Jackson's animated production had a slight change to the title when it was named
Afro Samurai - Season 1 Director's Cut. The "season one" part was very telling, because instead of keeping it as a limited mini-series, it telegraphed Jackson's plans to expand the character with new stories. And Spike TV has announced that a new episode is indeed on the way in 2009!
In January Spike TV will broadcast
Afro Samurai - Resurrection, once again starring Jackson as the title character. For more on the new story, you can
see the official site's trailer. Lucy Liu and Mark Hamill join the voice cast, too, so look (or rather, listen) for them! And you won't have to wait long to get this on home video, either. Over the weekend Amazon has added pre-order listings for a
February 3rd release of
Afro Samurai - Resurrection in three different versions:
Details about each version of the release aren't available yet, nor is cover art. But stay tuned and we'll update you as more information comes in!
