Well, the new season doesn't start for two more weeks, but even so the folks at Fox are already looking foward to the DVD release of
24 - Season 7. The folks at giant e-tailer Amazon.com
are already taking pre-orders for just such a release! There's no release date provided, just an acknowledgement that "
This title has not yet been released" and an assurance that "
You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives." But you have to keep in mind that the actual ship date is, in all likelihood, around a year away...just in time for the eighth season of the show to make its broadcast debut.
The cost is shown at Amazon as being $59.98 SRP, but as of this writing the price is discounted to $38.99 if you lock it in right away. Prices are always subject to change at Amazon's discretion, though. Bear in mind that if the price goes down by the time it ships, whenever that is, then Amazon will give you the lower price. And nobody gets your money - not Amazon, not Fox, no one - until the set ships. So it's a safe bet to place a pre-order like this. And, of course, you can cancel at any time (as the old saying goes).
Why are they doing this early (prior to broadcast!) pre-order for the DVDs? We're not sure, and we suspect it's more of an Amazon thing than a Fox thing. There's no other info there at the listing except for cast names, including Dennis Haysbert. Haysbert played the role of "David Palmer" in previous seasons of
24, but isn't connected to the series these days (he's seen in
The Unit. Could that be some sort of spoiler that he'll somehow make a return? Those who know the fate of the character will agree that this would be a neat trick, but the MORE likely explanation is that he would either be seen in a flashback, or that Amazon simply made a mistake to include him as a Season 7 cast member. Since the new season hasn't played out yet, it's tough to tell. We're going to just ignore it here, though, and hope it's not a spoiler of some sort.
Amazon also has listings for
24 - Season 7 and
24 - Season 1 on Blu-ray Disc format, but our advice is not to get excited about that just yet. These are merely "
sign up to be notified when this item becomes available" entries, with no release dates provided, which means Amazon will only take your e-mail address and let you know...IN CASE such releases ever happen. Such listings there are usually the result of lots of Amazon customers searching to see if such a thing exists, and Amazon not wanting them to get a "no results found" answer to their queries. Rest assured, if Fox announces any high-definition Blu-ray releases of the Kiefer Sutherland series, we'll be sure to let you know!
In the meantime, since the
24 - Season 7 DVD pre-order listing at Amazon gives no other info (no specs, no extras, no box art, etc.) there's not much more to say for now.
