In the past few years, Time Life has debuted a number of classic TV show releases on DVD, including The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour
and the award-winning Get Smart
set. Last summer there was a story
from The Hollywood Reporter
that Time Life had made a deal for DVD rights to the classic Don Cornelius dance show, Soul Train
Now TL has given us the heads-up that "within the next month Time Life will be releasing Soul Train to DVD
." It will apparently contain vintage episodes of the show, but they are not yet ready to provide all the details to us yet (i.e. how many discs, what the cost would be, what episodes/seasons/music performances are included in the contents, etc.). They will be announcing that soon, though, so they (and we) wanted to give you a heads-up.
We thought today would be the perfect day for that, too, because this evening (at 6:30 PM Eastern Time) the Payley Center For Media in New York City is holding a special premiere screening
of the "VH1 Rock Docs" series documentary titled Sould Train: The Hippest Trip In America
. It's meant to celebrate the show's 40th anniversary of being on-air, when it was originally a local Chicago-area show in 1970 (and then went national the following year). To celebrate this anniversary, the New York Paley Center will continue to screen classic episodes of Soul Train
through the end of February...roughly around the time we suppose the DVD release will be available to purchase directly from Time Life's website.
We can't wait to update you further about Time Life's DVD plans, so stay tuned and we'll bring you more info as soon as we can. In the meantime, as host Don Cornelius would say, "I wish you love, peace and soul."
